How to choose a power rack
- Rack or Smith machineA squat or power rack holds a free barbell for squats, presses and rack pulls. A Smith machine guides the bar on rails, which suits beginners learning form and lifting heavy without a spotter.
- Ceiling heightThe Shua Smith machines stand 228.7 cm and 248.5 cm tall. Check your ceiling and allow space around the frame to load plates.
- Frame weightA heavier frame is more stable. The Shua 63 Squat Rack weighs 85 kg, and the Smith machines 175 kg and 246 kg.
- Plan for a benchThe Shua 63 Squat Rack is made for bench presses and overhead presses as well as squats, so leave floor space for a bench.
Power rack questions
What is the difference between a squat rack and a Smith machine?
A squat or power rack holds a free barbell, so you control the bar's path. A Smith machine runs the bar on guide rails in a fixed path. On the Shua 88 Series Smith machine the safety stops can be set at any height and a locking system lets you re-rack between sets.
Can I train without a spotter?
A Smith machine is designed for it. On the Shua 88 Series Smith machine you set the safety stops at any height to catch the bar. The SH-G6953 has a counterbalanced bar that reduces the starting resistance.
How much space do I need for a Smith machine?
The SH-G6953 measures 218.5 × 153.5 × 248.5 cm and the 88 Series Smith machine 218.8 × 136.5 × 228.7 cm (L × W × H). Call +971 4 570 9616 for the sizes of the Shua 89 racks.
